More About Trap, Neuter, Return

Feral Feline Friends of East Tennessee strongly believes in the practice of TNR, and it is the most critical component of our mission.  We have TNR'd dozens of cats in the Knoxville area with the cooperation of area veterinarians and our volunteers.

Here's how Alley Cat Allies, an authority on feral cats and TNR, describes the practice...

"Trap, Neuter, and Release is a nonlethal sterilization method to reduce the numbers of feral cats in the environment both immediately and for the long-term.  It is a comprehensive, ongoing program in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors... are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and sterilized by veterinarians.  (Sometimes) kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes.  Healthy adult cats too wild (feral) to be adopted are returned to their familiar habitat under the lifelong care of compassionate humans.  Cats that are ill or injured beyond recovery are not returned to the environment."

Each year we participate in several "Feral Days".  We transport the cats to a local clinic, where veterinary volunteers complete several surgeries per day.
